it's taking forever just to finish the first round.  how long do they normally take.  I want to play other games but I don't want to get suddenly bombarded with 8 more games!

That's right Striyker.  Every Saturday I go to my neighborhood cofee shop and get my butt handed to me repeatedly in blitz chess, and every Saturday I leave Beaner's Cofee shop having learned a great deal.

bottom line is you play better opponents and your level of play increases. i don't learn from victories; only losses. you raise your game against better opponents for fear of getting your butt kicked. god bless everyone

that is true! but what there trying to say i think is that you should know where your rating should be around.you know if your a bove averge player! so why join a tournament when you know your going to blow people away!because they lossers!!!!!Foot in mouth

It's actually pretty simple.  One could theoretically be playing many many other games at the same time as the tournament.  Add to this the rating system that changes wildly when you first start because it is determining app. where you should be.  If you had only played the minimum number of games when the tourny started, and then you go on to win a bunch of games against good opponents your rating could be over 2000 pretty quickly.

Ummm. how does one enter a 1400 rated tournament and then increase 400 points in rating?
