India Victorious at 2008 World Junior Championship

The 2008 World Junior Championships were held from August 2-16, 2008 in Gaziantep, Turkey. On the boys side GM Abhijeet Gupta from India won the World Junior Championship title in dramatic fashion with a victory over another top contender in the final round to finish with a score of 10/13 and on the girls side IM Dronavalli Harika from India won the World Junior Championship title with a score of 10.5/13, a full 1.5 points in front of second place!

Final Standings (Boys):

1) GM Gupta (10/13)

2) GM Negi (9.5/13)

3-7) GM Safarli, IM Braun, WGM Hou, GM Amin, GM Howell (9/13)


Final Standings (Girls):

1) IM Harika (10.5/13)

2-5) WFM Ozturk, WFM Paikidze, WIM Gomes, WGM Muzychuk (9/13)
