FM Marian Jurcik Wins Stare Mesto FIDE Open

The 2008 Stare Mesto FIDE Open Tournament took place on August 8-16, 2008 in Stare Mesto, Czech Republic. The tournament was held at the Stare Mesto Sports and Cultural Center and was organized by the Stare Mesto Chess Club.

 

FM Marian Jurcik of Slovakia won the event with a score of 8.5/10 a clear half point in front of the three way tie for second place. Throughout the event FM Marian Jurcik played in dominant fashion winning 7 games and drawing the other 3 games, not losing one single game.

2-4) NM Dennis Brokken, IM Lukas Klima, GM Marek Vokac (8/10)

No offense here, and maybe it's a weird question, but why are you reporting on this tournament? Of course it's good to cover many events, but there are many strong events which are not covered on Chess.com. Is one of the players a Chess.com member?

And just as a sidenote, Dennis Brokken is not NM. He's not from the US, and apart from the US only few countries use the NM title. The Netherlands doesn't have the NM-title anymore I think. At least there aren't any NM's in the Netherlands.

 

About the game: Does anyone know how and why 3... Nc6 in the French has suddenly become so popular? Not so long ago, nearly everyone would go for a Winawer or just take on e4, but I see alot of Nc6's lately.
