Submitted by erik on Wed, 05/28/2008 at 10:55pm.

There was a really interesting interview posted today with Piotr, Chess.com's main live chess developer. Check it out (WARNING - contains a LOT of nerd-speak) =>

There has been other coverage here:  http://ajaxian.com/archives/live-chess-with-comet and http://cometdaily.com/2008/05/07/comet-games-chess-tick-tack-toe-pong-and-poker/

Enjoy!

Very interesting! I was wondering why Live Chess was using Prototype (I'm a jQuery man myself), now I know! Very cool to see that ordinary ajax calls weren't enough to keep everything in sync! Now I'm off to learn about this "Comet" thing ;) Keep up the good work!

But the position is interesting from a weak game.  White had to lose a tempo or two to get in that cramped position, but Black missed winning moves.  Black should be winning now, but had better moves earlier in the game.  White should exchange pawns and both castle, but Black is ahead in development.  The opening was 1.e4 e5 2.Qf3?! Nf6 3.Bc4 d5 4.Bb5+? (4.exd5 was better) c6 5.Ba4 Nbd7? (5...Nxe4 wins) 6.Ne2 (6.exd5 is better) Bc5? (6...Nxe4 or 6...Nc5 wins)
