This endgame is for most intermediate players who are aiming to achieve a rating of about 1700 to 1900. This endgame is rather tricky to perform, however is a valuable tool to have within your repertoire.

This mate is not as difficult as K+N+B  vs King, but it's tricky, and it's important to have a method to be able to do it consistently.  I like to head for a key position with the enemy King at the edge of the board, and then deliver a forcing sequence to mate.  This is an example that I played from a more or less random position against Shredder at full strength. Annotations explain a few of the White moves.
