OK rockers, here is the score so far. Well, I neglected to call for a vote on the A List, but Beavis & Butthead declared "Them Bones" to be the coolest video ever, and who am I to disagree? So unless or until it gets voted off the island, "Them Bones" is the incumbent. And so far Bad Company is in the lead on the B List, but this is an election year, so we shall keep the ballots open. OK, without further ado, here is the C List.

Votes anyone? I am afraid that there are so many great songs here that there will be more songs than voters, meaning that each voter may have a different favorite song, and then I'd have to be the tie-breaker. And nobody wants that! By the way, C is also a significant letter for voting theory itself, with Condorcet alternatives for when the voting gets messy. Let's hope it does not come to that, either!
I've lost more hearing to White Room than any of the others, so I'll go with Cream.
If you need a tie-breaker, put an extra chip in for the Clash.
Siya. ;)
Thank you Lisa, great choices! Before I forget to vote, let me cast two two cents for "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" and "Fire Woman".
Took me years, i.e., youtube, to find out who did "If I Had a Rocket Launcher." Thought I was the only one who remembered it.....
That is one moster song! And its anti-war theme seems appropriate for more modern times too! You Tube is great, but it is also limited. I have a whole list of great songs that I cannot find on You Tube. In fact, many of them would fall within the C List, if only. I will list them here, in hopes that maybe somebody can tell me that I have the name wrong, and that the song (under a different name) actually is on You Tube:
John Cafferty, Maryia;
Call, How Will I Know You?;
Candlebox, Don't You (can find only the live version);
Tony Carey, Natalia;
Toney Cary, Vigilante;
Cars, Down Boys;
Cars, Got a Lot on My Head (this was popular, so where is it now?);
Ry Cooder, Trespass;
Sam Cooke, One Hour Ahead of the Posse;
Cowboy Mouth, Whatcha Gonna Do? (also popular);
Marhsall Crenshaw, Someday Some Way (also popular).
Couldn't Get It Right could hardly be improved upon (ironically enough, I suppose, considering the title). And I'll go with Accidents Will Happen as well.
But no Creedence? Frankly, Vance, I'm kinda appalled. And allow me (if I may--this being an election year and all, like you say) to proffer a few write-ins:
Cars--Bye Bye Love (Ocasek's lyrics were never quirkier)
Jim Croce--Roller Derby Queen (the more I hear it, the funnier it gets)
Culture Club--That's The Way (the ultimate gospel-style singalong)
Kudos to Cycle Sluts, by the way--I've never heard the song, but the title is doubleplus good!
I love "Bye, Bye Love", plus a host of other Cars songs. They are one of my favorites of all-time. But I did want to limit myself to just one song per artist. I am actually not familiar with the other two songs you mentioned, so I shall have to check them out. And yes, I do like Creedence, but I could not think of any one song they have that just kicks it. Maybe "Center Field" is best, if we equate a subset of the band with the band itself, but alas, soccer is my game, and baseball is not, so I left it out.
Okay, these would be my candidates:
Up Around the Bend
Fortunate Son
Have You Ever Seen the Rain
Wrote a Song For Everyone (musically, it's The Weight--but lyrically...wow!)
Those first two kind of rock. The third one, not so much. And I am afraid that I do not know the fourth one. Oh well. But hey, voters are allowed to write in votes -- they are not limited to the choices provided!
Dead Kennedys ~ Too drunk to F%^&
But that would be for the D List! I have heard of the Dead Kennedys, but am afraid that I do not know any of their songs. In the 1980s, I heard this great song called F%^& You, and someone said that it was by the Dead Kennedys. For years, I believed this, and even stated it as a fact. Then I found that it was another band, called Overkill. Oh well, live and learn, right?
lol
I thought you meant C list as in 3rd rank.
Cult ~ Go West
Yeah, that double meaning was intentional, but I figured that all would become clear once we got to the B List, and saw it for what it was. I will have to check out that song -- I know only three by the Cult, and love all three, but that one is not one of the ones that I know. Thank you for letting me know about it!
Go West Young Man -- I like it! Added it to my list (my list is a much longer one than the small sample I share with the group). Yet I still have to rank the four Cult songs I know in this order:
1. Fire Woman;
2. She Sells Sanctuary;
3. Rise;
4. Go West.
But alas we are almost splitting hairs here, because all of them are so good! It is hard for me to cast a vote, because it's almost like whichever of these songs (not just the Cult, but any of the ones that I listed) I am listening to at the moment is the best one. Sort of like a home-field advantage, I suppose.
You could also try
Cult ~ Edie

You know "Perfect Skin"? I was afraid that I might be the only one who knew this one. Great song, right?
